On Friday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) carried out extensive clearing operations along alternate routes in Quezon City, resulting in the apprehension of 105 illegally parked vehicles and the impoundment of four.

The objective of these operations is to ensure unimpeded access along alternate routes before the partial closure of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover on May 1.

In addition to addressing illegally parked vehicles, the operation targeted illegal vendors, store extensions, sidewalk encroachments, and illegal garbage dumping, all of which obstruct pedestrian pathways and contribute to traffic congestion.

Assistant General Manager for Operations, Assistant Secretary David Angelo Vargas, explained, "The SOG-SF (Special Operations Group–Strike Force) has conducted an information campaign in the area days before today's clearing operations. We have advised motorists as well as residents to avoid parking on sidewalks and roads."

During the road clearing operations at Panay Ave., Scout Borromeo, Sgt. Esguerra, Samar Ave., and neighboring areas, owners of the 105 illegally parked vehicles were issued violation tickets. Vargas clarified, "Penalties are PHP1,000 for attended illegal parking and PHP2,000 for unattended illegally parked vehicles. Towed vehicles were brought to the MMDA impounding area in Tumana, Marikina City."

A segment of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover is set to undergo rehabilitation for six months, with an anticipated reopening date of Oct. 25.

In a separate development, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Friday that a section of Loyola St. in Sampaloc, Manila, will be closed for drainage repairs for a month, from April 27, 2024, to May 26, 2024.
